Walter

Playing around with drawing and painting this little character. He looks like a Walter to me. He's on hot press paper and inked with a micron pen. I'm torn between cold press and hot press. I like how the ink looks on cold press but painting is so much smoother on hot press. This image was scanned at a bit of a higher resolution.  Hoping it gives you a better look. Let me know what you think.

Walter is wonderful... I so wish I could call in and see him in person :o)

Christine, this image does look sharper because you scanned at a higher res. Images for the blog only need to be re-saved at 72ppi before they are uploaded. And a re- size of about 500pixels wide or high would be a reasonable compromise.
This image is 339 x 316 pixels, so it is still small... but I have really enjoyed seeing it :0)

Whatever you decide about sizes... do keep sharing as I love seeing your work.

Lovely Walter! (a hamster?)
Never tried ink on hot pressed (only on cold), but I think it looks great.

Walter is perfect! I think you do watercolor brilliantly! I tried to color some of my illustrations and did prefer hotpress but I'm just not nearly as good as you are. I can't wait until you publish your own book!

Rat?
Hamster?
I thought Walter was a Guinea Pig. Or is that a tail he is holding?

Whatever kind of animal he is, he is endearing.

Uh-oh...seems I must clear up the confusion as to who or what Walter is. He's a mouse with his pink tail double wrapped around him. Walter's glaring at me right now. I think I'd better redraw him. I'm glad for the feedback though. It's good to know if something doesn't look like what it's supposed to be. And I just gave Walter some cheese so he's forgiven me. Thanks for the comments everyone:)

I don't paint, so I'm not much help on the paper topic, but I do know that Walter is super fabulous! I, too, struggle with my getting my scans to look right in my posts, but this one looks great on my screen. Yay Walter!

Sorry for the confusion, please apologise fully to Walter for me :o)

(It was the three toes that made me think ...Guinea Pig... and I assumed he was tangled up in a rope of some sort!)

On the hot press/cold press issue, I love cold press for the way it takes watercolor and what it enables you to do with washes, especially if you work on a larger scale, but I find I'm increasingly using hot press for illustration because it takes line more easily. There doesn't seem to be one right answer. Anyway Walter is very cute and full of character.
