What is that THING?

If I have ever have to have a close encounter with the gigantic bug kind under my kitchen sink I hope it's a cute scared one like this little (big) guy.

More character sketches

What's better than a guinea pig on a unicycle? Not much. Another character sketch that I should take to color. I need the practice. My current transfer process (tracing paper) makes me dread doing it. I need another way-fast. How do you do it?

Max

I always struggle with faces and heads. It's as if I want to find my signature head shape and use it all the time. Or at least use the same approach each time. Does that make sense?

Anyhow, working out a character for a current project. And I did a piece for IF for the topic Before and After earlier this year and I want to redo it. It was of a young student sent off to school for picture day (before) and then completely unraveled at the end of the day (after). If I can get it right I want to include it in my portfolio. I think this guy will work nicely for both.

Possible IF sketch for Germs

Now that this is up on screen..that's a mighty big magnifying glass! Probably won't have time to paint it for this week's IF topic: germs but I thought this sketch was fitting. "Ew!" thought Mantis,"I wonder how many germs it has?"

When I am able to paint it I may make the boy smaller. What do you think?

Witchie Sketch

This is one of 4 drawings for a double page spread. The text is actually a poem. Usually don't draw witches but it's been fun. I'm trying to make her less revolting and more on the cute side. One of her eyes is open just so I could use it in another drawing. They'll both be squeezed closed in delight in the final.

A quick sketch for a thank you card for Christmas gifts the kids received. Santa is multi-talented, you know. Merry Christmas!

Santa knows....

...if you're naughty or nice! More sketches for a Christmas card idea.

I love the looseness of sketching, Maybe it's the excitement of first getting that great idea down on paper. The reworking can even add character, with the imperfect lines. I can never seem to take a sketch to a final copy with the same carefree results. Frustrating. Maybe it takes practice?

Santa Claus is coming to town

Posted by PicasaTrying to sketch a few Christmas card ideas. I can see it in my head, hope I can get it to look somewhat close. Ignore the other face on the right. He was my first Santa on a motor scooter sketch.
